At Home Nail and Manicure Tips

It’s really important to take care of your cuticles at home in between salon appointments, as the cuticles are key to your overall nail health. Use cuticle oil and after you have been in the shower or bath, use a cuticle pusher to push the cuticle back. Using a moisturiser or hand cream regularly is also very beneficial as it will hydrate your skin, cuticles and nails.

Some important things to remember when carrying out a manicure at home are to make sure when you are filing your nails that they are completely dry. This is important as filing wet nails can cause to splitting. Prior to polishing your nails, always be sure to use a buffer to buff the nail on top, as this will ensure you have an even surface before applying your nail polish. Add a bit of cuticle remover before you work on your cuticles and try not to push them too far to avoid damaging your nails. Always apply a base coat before your two applications of polish you have chosen, as this will stop the nail from being discoloured when you take your nail varnish off.

Some other important tips there are when it comes to nail care are always be gentle with your nails and if you’re washing the dishes, try to wear gloves to avoid damaging them. Having a healthy diet is also important when it comes to your nails. Therefore, if you can, try to eat foods rich in protein in order to maintain nail strength. I’d also say it’s important to give your nails a break from time to time and simply just apply a clear gloss over them to stop them from becoming week over time and avoid them from drying out. Two other incredibly important nail tips are to clean your nail tools, as this avoids spreading bacteria to your nails and to trim your nails regularly! Like your hair, your nails need regular trips to keep them healthy and looking their best.
