Karen & Paula at the Matrix ‘Inspire Me’ Show 2014…
The team at KAM Hair & Body Spa have been very busy bees this month – taking part in the incredible Matrix ‘Inspire Me’ Tour 2014.
Matrix ‘Inspire Me’ events are always up close and personal, deliver inspiration and on trend looks, and serve as a fantastic way of learning new skills.
Paula (in her role as a colour technician for Matrix) worked behind the scenes, prepping and colouring all the models for on stage in the evening. Karen, who is part of the Matrix UK Artistic Team, took to the stage in Dundee to share her skills with fellow hairdressers.

Paula recalls…
“I was very lucky to be part of the matrix team for a two day tour of hair shows in Inverness and Aberdeen. During the day we do all the prep work for the models, I was part of the colour team for this, we came up with new techniques and ideas for each model.
This year we got our inspiration from Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection. It’s an amazing to be part of this and also see top hairdressers on stage giving us inspiration it helps us keep KAM right on trend and gives me lots to take back to the salon to share with staff and clients”
Karen says…
“After an 18 month break from any Matrix work the first thing I was asked to do was to be part of the Matrix Inspire Me tour on stage in Dundee with an audience of 100+, my reaction – yeah great….yikes! Ha ha the last time I did that I was 7 months pregnant and I must say it was a thought to get back up there but as they say onwards and upwards! I had a fantastic time I had great models that really were up for anything, 2 girls restlyles, a guy and a hair up style.
The day went fantastic starting at 8.30am meeting the team and models, the Matrix Colour team then were hard at work creating colours to work with the looks that I was going to create and I started working on my models pre-cutting some areas as we only have 20 mins per model on stage. Prep continued till around 5pm when we then had show rehearsals, then it was time to get dressed sort the hair and touch up my make up and take to the stage.
The evening went well with all the models looking great, I was really pleased with my hair upstyle my inspiration for this came from Alexander McQueen’s AW14 collections and started with a large scalp fish tail plait spiralling round the head, then I added some here pieces that I had prepped and done fish tails on and worked with the hair left to create a messy tousled up do that the audience loved. I was working with another brilliant young Artist from our Artistic team Ashleigh Hodges who also create amazing cuts and styles on stage. The day finished around 10pm and we were glad to get back to the hotel and fall into bed.
I love what I do and it never really seems like work when you feel so passionate about something, it makes you push yourself as a stylist and think out of the box which gives me so much to take back to KAM and the team, I never stop learning and love that!”
