Keep Your Skin Looking Its Best During Lock Down

Lauren Crannis Senior Beauty Therapist

During this lock down it is vital that you look after yourself and your family’s health. It might be the case that you are working from home, or have become a teacher to your children, but you should also take time to look after yourself and skincare is an important part of that.

During this isolation period you may find that your skin is potentially breaking out, even without wearing makeup daily. This could be due to lots of factors, but stress, diet and hygiene could be playing roles in this. The world may seem like a scary place at the moment, and you may find yourself worrying about things that are out of your control, and this could be causing that pesky breakout on your chin. Try to take some time out of your day and practice some ‘self-care’, whether that is a bath, reading a book, going for a socially distancing walk or even just getting an early night, are all ways in which we can take some control back and give ourselves a much needed break.

If you are anything like me you may also be finding it difficult to stick to a healthy diet during this lock down, as boredom can take over and you find yourself reaching for that extra chocolate or bag of crisps. This can be causing your skin to seem extra oily, or congested. Try to eat a healthy well rounded diet with lots of fruit and vegetables. If you can try to stick to a schedule, eat at the same time you normally would if you were on a normal working day. Drinking lots of water can also help to keep your skin clear and hydrated, and if you do find yourself reaching for that bar of dairy milk, try to limit the amount that you are eating.

You may think with the extra hand washing and hygiene measures that you have never felt this clean, but during this lock down you could be missing steps in your usual skincare routine. Although you are not wearing make up on a daily basis, your skin is still exposed to dirt, grime, sweat, dust and anything else that you come across. It’s important to stick to your usual facial cleansing routine in the morning and evening as you normally would. However, if you found that your schedule before the lock down was very busy and you couldn’t incorporate more skincare into your routine, maybe now is the time to start exfoliating, using a mask, serum or treatment oil that you couldn’t before.

Depending on your skin type or concern, here are a few ESPA products I recommend to each concern.

For cleansing, we recommend Optimal Skin Pro Cleanser which is a 3 in 1 cleanser, exfoliator and mask to nourish, smooth and visibly brighten your complexion. This is a hero product that you can put in the shower and use in the morning and evening, and the moringa seed extract deeply cleanses your skin. Once or twice a week you can also use this as an exfoliator simply by massaging onto damp skin until the jojoba spheres melt into your skin and remove by rinsing with water. You can then apply this product onto dry skin for 15 minutes twice a week to reveal brighter skin.

You can use Hydrating Floral Spafresh as a toner twice a day. To use this, simply apply to dry cotton pads after cleansing and sweep over the neck and décolleté. You can also use this throughout the day to refresh your skin by simply spritzing your skin with this product.

Finally, there are two different treatment oils that you could be using depending on your concern. The first is Replenishing Face Treatment Oil, which is a deeply nourishing facial oil that replenishes and protects the skin, strengthens the natural moisture barrier and helps minimise the appearance of fine lines. You should apply this oil at night after cleansing, using a few drops to smooth over your face, neck and décolleté. The next facial treatment oil is Balancing Face Treatment Oil, which is a purifying facial oil to balance excess oils and boost hydration, for skin that is soft, soothed and clarified. Use this oil in the same way you would the replenishing oil.

If you are currently on your Environ journey, here’s a few products that you can use at any stage during your Step Up program.

If your finding your skin is dull and lacklustre, it could be that it needs a hydration boost. Try using Environ Focus Care Moisture+ HA Intensive Hydrating Serum, which is rich in Hyaluronic Acid to help plump the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Simply cleanse and tone your skin as normal, and then apply 1-2 pumps of the serum to the face and neck, allow to dry, and then follow with your Environ Vitamin A moisturiser.

If you find that you are having breakouts during this lockdown, you could apply Environ Focus Care Clarity+ Botanical Infused Sebu-Spot Blemish Gel directly to any blemishes. It helps to reduce the redness and speed up wound healing to reduce the size and severity of any blemishes. Simply apply to cleansed skin after you have applied your vitamin A moisturiser. It is also good practice to avoid squeezing or picking any spots you may have and allow them to heal on their own.

These are uncertain times for all of us, but we are all in this together. Just remember to take time for yourself and look after yourself, and your skin!
